Abstract

Interaction is an emotional, intellectual and behavioral impact-reaction relationship between individuals. Sociology is particularly interested in the change in social behaviors during this interaction process. In this context, the study aims to demonstrate the role of teachers in engaging refugee students in interaction processes with convergent processes (adaptation, cooperation and integration) and distancing processes (competition and conflict) within the socialization processes. In the study, which was limited to the sample of Recep Ersayın Primary School in Buca district of Izmir province, an in-depth interview was conducted with semi-structured interview form with qualitative research method. In our study, it is seen that children who are directed by their teachers to convergence processes tend to integrate with their environment, form harmonious relationships, express themselves easily, have an increased susceptibility to cooperation with their peers and teachers, learn the rules more easily, accept social and cultural values more easily, while directing children to the distancing process in their relationships, engaging in competition and labeling, negatively affecting their interactions with society and their environment, causing them to engage in incompatible social behaviors.
