Abstract

We witness the existence of a female identity that is positioned and symbolized at the center of the identity constructions that constitute the triangulation point of Turkish modernization. The masculine mentality of modernization has primarily conceived of a female identity, and has constructed the conditions and limits of the positioning of this identity in a precise language. Especially novels play an important role in the construction of this female identity, which is operationalized through literature. When we look at our literary tradition in general, it is impossible not to see that male writers are not only numerous but also dominant in terms of authority. This not only implies a male-dominated structure in our literary world, but also reinforces that gender identities are also produced by "male writers" and that the image of a woman is created by men. With feminism becoming more widespread and rising as a value in the 1970s, women writers and women's sensitivity came to the forefront in our literature. Bildungsromans - as bildungsroman- are narratives in which the growth, development and maturation stories of male and female characters come to the fore. Since the late 20th century, bildungsromans, which have come to the fore by women writers, are seen as an important opportunity for women to construct their own identities and to show the masculine hierarchical structure in social life. In this context, Figen Şakacı's trilogy, one of the names that makes the mechanisms of oppression on women visible by bringing female protagonists to the forefront, will be discussed as an example of bildungsroman.
