Abstract
One of the most important problems caused by visual deficiency is limited mobility. Visually impaired children lead a dependent life to others in an overprotective environment. They present stereotypical behaviors to stimulate themselves when they cannot move. Because of an immobile life, they face problems related to language, cognitive and psychomotor development (posture and walking). In order to avoid accidents and be able to move safely, they develop walking styles like walking with slow steps and hands ahead. This article was written in order to present the effects of visual impairment on psychomotor development and independent action and to introduce the education strategies / assisting programs intended for psychomotor development which has a very significant place in the development of a disabled person and to propose applicable cues. In line with this purpose, postgraduate dissertations were scanned from the open access portals of universities and from the thesis catalogue of High Education Board. The resources were scanned from EBSCO database and various articles regarding the subject were found. Scanning process was conducted for verbal statement in 2012, and from January 2014 onwards, the scanning processes were expanded in order to be used in the article. Scanning process was conducted by entering the keywords as “orientation and mobility / visual impairment / psychomotor development / motor development / assisting programs for psychomotor development” and the reference books related to the subject obtained from university libraries were examined
