Abstract

Çiğdem Sezer (1960-) addressing the relationship between being a woman and language at the metaphorical levelfocuses on how women’s sorrows turn into "wounds" in her poems. In her poetry, women are the speakers of a "brokenlanguage". For this reason, they are people of a "cold" season, away from the comfort zone of an open communication. In accordance with the climate created by the setting, her language universe dwells in the winter through the use ofwords like "rain", "cloud", "ice", "cold", "snow", "feel chilly", "mistral." In terms of emotions, a depressing worldcreated with dark colours is encountered. If the subject is assumed to be the poet herself, how she interprets the conflict between sexual identity and society can be understood. Sezer, who has been forced to live her womanhood like aguest and who feels the uneasiness of self-alienation, builds up a fragmented world. In her poems, mirrors, languages, bicycles are broken; ceilings are cracked; city walls, ships are destroyed; the sky is in pieces. Especially, the pain ofthe woman who has to be silent for she cannot express herself, weighs upon the heart of the reader. Emotionalconflicts and memories, the pressures of the patriarchal structure on women, crises created by the inability to copewith the speed of society as a modern woman and the hassle of the race of daily life are among the most importantthemes in her poetry. Therefore, the need for personal existence space is presented through some concepts such aslanguage, street, child, dream, mother, father and beloved. These areas of refuge that show 'the back garden' of thewoman in 'the back garden of life' are significant. This article will attempt to analyse the relationship of the voicewith woman's fragility and ontological refuge areas in Sezer’s poems, particularly in her poem titled "KelebekleriÖldürürüz Sokağı". More specifically, psychological and sociological factors which contribute to women takingrefuge in words, their broken language, and silence will be examined with reference to Kadının Farklı Sesi (2017) bythe feminist psychologist Carol Gilligan, and Şu Bizim Kırılganlığımız (2018) by psychiatrist Eugenio Borgna.

Abstract (Turkish)

"Parçalanmış [Bir] Dil"in Anlam Alanları: Çiğdem Sezer Şiirlerinde Kadın

Onun şiirlerinde kadınlar "parçalanmış dil"in konuşucularıdır.
