Abstract

Purpose: The present study is planned to investigate the relationship between global fatigue severity and anxiety, stress, sleep problem levels and demographic characteristics in individuals with schizophrenia. Materials and Method: One hundred and twenty one individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia whose mean age 35.73±11.80, 49 (%40.5) of whom were male, 72 (%59.5) of whom were female, included in the study. The global fatigue severity, stress level and sleep problem of individuals were evaluated by using Visual Analog Scale and anxiety level of them was evaluated by using Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A). Because variables were not distrubuted normally, Spearman Correlation Coefficient and Mann-Whitney U Test were used for statistical analysis. Results: The results indicated that global fatigue severity was significantly and positively correlated to stress levels (r=0.387, p=0.001), sleep problem severity (r=0.418, p=0.001) and anxiety scores (r=0.448, p=0.001) respectively. There was no significant relationship between global fatigue severity and age, education years and duration of disease (p>0.05). There was no statistically significant difference in global fatigue scores between gender groups (p>0.05). conclusion: The global fatigue which is related to anxiety, stress and sleep problem severity is an important factor that should be considered in evaluation and intervention programs
