Abstract

Studies that take the human–nature relationship as their foundation not only offer solutions to contemporary problems but also highlight the growing significance of ecology. Human beings and nature constitute an inseparable whole. While issues such as unplanned urbanization, migration, the destruction of natural resources for profit, excessive consumption, and climate-related problems are critically examined, the proposed solutions and developed approaches contribute to the formation and expansion of ecological consciousness. All these studies are shaped by diverse perspectives, yet they are grounded in the shared view that humanity inhabits a common ecosystem. Although the phenomenon of migration has been addressed through various approaches, it largely converges around the fundamental sociological dynamics of modernity and industrial society. Consequently, economic activities, population growth, and population density emerge as factors that directly influence demographic structures. In Türkiye, the transformation of the system and social life following the establishment of the Republic particularly urbanization and changes in modes of production triggered migration and, in turn, mobilized the structural dynamics of rural life. Within this framework, the ecological fabric in both urban and rural spaces acquires a new dimension shaped by evolving production and consumption relations. As a result of this transformation, the capitalist system inaugurates an unstoppable age of consumption. These developments constitute the primary source of ecoviolence observed in both urban and rural contexts. The ecological perspective embedded in ecocritical works is constructed around two fundamental concepts: industrial production and ecological violence. The loss of value in rural life, cultural degeneration, mechanization in agriculture followed by migration, and the social, economic, and ecological problems arising from these processes form the central thematic axes of literary narratives. In this study, migration is examined not merely as a form of physical displacement but also as a cultural, psychological, and particularly ecological rüptüre a form of existential disorientation and destruction. Therefore, it is inevitable that a concept with such a profound impact on the fundamental elements shaping social mentality finds aesthetic interpretation and reflection within the literary sphere. In Adalet Ağaoğlu’s short story Yüksek Gerilim , the phenomenon of migration is analyzed through ecocritical concepts such as ecoviolence, ecological mourning (ecogrief), and ecological texture, with the aim of revealing how ecological, social, and economic contexts are represented. Within this framework, the study focuses on literature’s transformative power in reconfiguring the phenomenon of migration and inscribing it into collective memory. It seeks to interpret the ruptures formed within the human–nature–migration triangle through the lens of Ağaoğlu’s Yüksek Gerilim.
