Abstract

Purpose: Aim of the study is to compare the cognitive aspects of older people living at home and those who live in the hospital. Material and Methods: To the study, 16 older people living at home attended. 7 of them were men (average of age: 74.42± 5.50 year) and 9 of them were women (average of age: 75.88± 9.22 year). Also, 17 individuals living in hospital attended. 9 of them were women ( average of age: 76.00± 10.02 year) and 5 of them were men (average of age: 76.25± 8.42 year). Results: When the two groups were compared in terms of activities of daily living (ADL), the total points of the individuals living at home were 4.5.± 0.5; the points of the individuals living at hospital were 4.0± 1.5. When we looked at instrumental ADL, individuals living at hospitals scored 3.4± 1.25 while older people living at home scored 4.1± 1.18. When we looked at communication, individuals living at home got 4.6± 1.22 points; individuals living at hospital got 4.3± 1.38 points. When both groups were compared in terms of ADL, instrumental ADL and communication, although individuals living at home got higher points, it has been found out that it is statistically meaningless (p>0.05). conclusion: We agree that both individuals living at home and the ones living at hospital need to be evaluated in the matter of ADL, instrumental ADL and communication and their educations definitely need to be given in the occupational therapy intervention programmes

Abstract (Turkish)

Sonuçlar: Günlük yaşam aktiviteleri (GYA) açısından her iki grup karşılaştırıldığında evde yaşayan bireylerin aldığı ortalama toplam puan 4.5.± 0.5; hastanede yaşayan bireylerin aldığı puan 4.0± 1.5’dir.
