Abstract
Purpose: By organizing an indoor football match as a part of Sports and Recreation class we aim to introduce sports to the disabled people in the University, promote sports activities to other disabled people and raise awareness on this issue. Indoor football is a sport which has its own specific rules, even though it is similar to football. Athletes are classified as B1, B2, B3 according to their visual acuity. B1 consists of totally blind players while B2 and B3 consist of partially blind players. Materials and Method: In our study, two different indoor football matches were planned. Two visually impaired national team players were asked to participate to the Çankaya Municipality Sports Club Team. Hacettepe University Beytepe indoor sports hall was used for the match. Our team uniforms were prepared by Students with Disabilities Unit with the support of Department of Sport, Culture and the Health. Results: Our event consisted of two different matches. The first match was between visually impaired individuals and people who did not have such a disability. The second match was between the two teams both consisting of visually impaired individuals. Competitions were recorded by TRT Engelsiz Spor Program (Sport without Barriers Program) and were featured on national television. conclusion: Enough attention is not paid to disabled sports in our country. By this kind of activities, people with disabilities can have the chance of being role models. This kind of awareness activities can help disadvantaged groups to participate in the society
